History

The first Speedmaster was designed for racing teams and engineers, hence the name "Speedmaster. In 1965, the Speedmaster was chosen by NASA to be worn during various space missions and eventually during the moon landing. From then on, the title 'Moonwatch' became inseparable from the Speedmaster.

In 1965, the Omega Speedmaster was chosen by NASA (from a selection of 10 chronographs from various brands) to equip the astronauts of the Gemini and Apollo missions. The first Speedmaster was worn during the Gemini III mission on March 23, 1965.

Reference 105.003

The reference ST 105.003 is the last Speedmaster with the so-called straight lugs, also called pre-Professional. The ST 105.003 is the Speedmaster that was tested and finally chosen by NASA as the official and exclusive watch worn by the astronauts of the Gemini missions. This reference is also called the "Ed White" after the first astronaut to take a spacewalk during the Gemini IV mission. An estimated 16,000 pieces of the ST 105,003 were produced from 1964 to 1969.

Functions: chronograph with 30-minute & 12-hour registers, small second, central chronograph hand. Fitted with Omega steel ref.1039 'flat link' strap with a folding clasp.
