The 1680 is of historical importance within Rolex history, since this reference involved the first Submariner with date function. Introduced in 1969, the ref. 1680 became the third and only reference with date within the Submariner family alongside references 5512 and 5513. The earlier configurations were characterized by the red text "Submariner" on the dial. The later versions received an all-white printed text and are less collectible and expensive despite their shorter production run.
