The GMT-Master. "The finest timepiece for flight navigation"

The GMT-Master was developed by Rolex to meet the special needs of the flight personnel of two renowned airlines: PAN AM and American Airlines. It was a great success, as pilots stated that the rotating bezel and separate 24-hour hand proved to be a great help in their daily flight operations.

The GMT-Master has also been enthusiastically received by ship captains, military personnel and business people, in fact anyone whose work requires them to be in different time zones.

The GMT-Master is equipped with a rotating bezel, divided into 24 hours, a red 24-hour hand, so that the exact time can be directly displayed in two different locations. A pilot can directly read "Greenwich Mean Time" and local time.

The GMT-Master is an 'Official Certified Chronometer' which means that the timepiece has passed rigorous testing by the 'Swiss Institute for Official Chronometer Tests'. The 'Oyster case' makes the watch waterproof and resistant to dust and dirt. The 'Perpetual mechanism' automatically winds the movement and keeps the spring at a constant tension which improves accuracy.

How do you use your GMT-Master?

Nb. a Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675 was used in this calculation example.

The red 24-hour hand
The 24-hour hand runs full circle every 24 hours. The pointer is directly linked to the normal hour and minute hands.

Note: It is important that the red triangle of the bezel is at the 12 o'clock position.

Example:
Suppose you are leaving New York for Rome. The time on your watch is 14:19. In Rome it is 6 hours later compared to New York. Starting with the bezel's red triangle at 12 o'clock, turn the bezel counterclockwise 6 hours until the red triangle is at the 9 o'clock position. Now you can read both the time in New York (normal hands) and the time in Rome (the red 24-hour hand relative to the bezel).

Important:
When traveling from West to East, rotate the bezel counterclockwise for the time difference
When traveling from East to West, rotate the bezel clockwise for the time difference
